What #oklaed means to you..
image

What we see in the pic is real! Okay you really wouldn’t be able to get that many personalities to stand still for that long. That one in the front is wiry! #oklaed is everything before us! This political season has taken on a personality of its own. It’s changed and is continuing to change the way education is seen. Agents of Education following the examples of the forerunners who have carried the torch the past few years are now leading discussions about education. #oklaed has a nationwide following and is continuing to grow. We are now being looked at and modeled as a group that is leading changes for their students and defending their rights to be given the respect they deserve. And why??? Why do we do it? Because #oklaed means Family! And that is what we are….we are United As ONE!

How Ordinary Teachers Become Activists | Cult Of Pedagogy

Agents all across the Nation are tired of Public Education being dumped on by those who thumb their nose at the public school system.  We must stay strong and stand ready to protect the student’s from the extremists corporate education junkies! We must fight against bills like SB1187 and its counterpart.  It is a ALEC bill through and through. Take a look… @edgeblogger had a great piece on it. Look at them side by side and you decide. Cut from the same tree! We can not let up…not now! They are hoping we are getting tired. Stay strong and stay active! Below is a link worth reading…take a look and see that we are not alone…. We Are United As ONE! #oklaed

A Ray of Sunshine!

Today agents we all breath a little easier. There will still be battles that lie ahead but for the time being we rest and enjoy today. Today is a gift!
Consolidation has past for now and ESA’s have become dormant.
You did it! You and all the other Agents. You did it! You fought at every turn. You stayed strong every minute of the waking hours. I know because I saw…. Im proud to be a part of this great family. You have the students backs and you have each others as well. #oklaed is truly a family, a unit and a force to be reckoned with. You are my heroes!  Remember….when we are United As ONE there is nothing we can not accomplish.  Take care and rest. You deserve it!                                        End of transmission….

Students Services Suffer 4 ESA,s

image

I can see the future you know…..and so can so many others in the business.  Its not magic! It’s math! More students less revenue equals children not getting the best of what they could have had. If you keep taking away, the students suffering increases. The pic above illustrates that all the categories are rising but yet the revenue for public education is lowering. In three of the four categories (bottom 3) the numbers have increased dramatically.  Anymore cuts to the resources in these areas will no doubt have major implications to a students learning ability.  For example: students on free/reduced lunch will be affected as a result of less finacial support to child nutrition. We all know that the meals, that many of our students eat at school are the only meals they get to eat that day. We have already seen cuts to the child nutrition program and many districts will have to make more. Lunch programs are having to reevaluate what type of food they serve and the cost thereof.  Meaning instead of a nutritional meal with lasting benefits for growing and energetic students they will be served more heat and serve and we all know a pizza pocket is what every student needs for fuel but is not the best choice for learning…but I do like a pizza pocket every now and then. We take pride in feeding the children and we know how important it is to do so. A full stomach offers security,  comfort and allows for one less distraction to the student because their stomach isnt growling. Good nutritional meals have many benifits to a childs ability to learn.  The ESA bills harm Public Education students in more ways than one. My grandma always said, “I rather have to much food than not enough, because if I have a choice you are going to get your fill”. We are Agents of Education and our job is so much more than a classroom made of mortar and bricks. Its about feeding the students mentally and physically. If ESA’s pass, those two have just become desperately tough! Agents we must fight the selfish desires of a few and stop the ideology that wants to harm the children!  The Education Siphoning Act will suck the life right out of Public Education!  It is our students time! Their time is now! United As ONE!

Trouble, Trouble, ESA/Voucher Trouble!

Is Oklahoma headed down this road………..Is this all that some legislators will listen too?

Other State Government’s have taken the steps that Oklahoma seems bent on following. What they have found for the most part are dismal results. Oklahoma only needs to look at these areas such as Boston where the students are taking matters into their own hands and walking out and protesting at their capitol. Why….because their policy leaders let them down, turned their back and thumbed their noses at them. Are Oklahoma legislators willing to do the same thing? Some of them are but many still have a sense of responsibility to the masses and not to corporate sponsors. Selfish attitudes and overblown egos rule the office for some leaders. When the majority of their constituents are opposed to ESAs/vouchers they willfully ignore them and do what they want. They fabricate statements to make it look like they are getting thousands of calls in support of their measures when in reality they are not, but you could not tell it by the way they speak about such things. No they use numbers such as I knocked on 35K doors and they support me. When asked immediately, so you knocked on 35K doors they answer comes back from the Senator…..well you guessed it…..he LIED! Some in the Oklahoma legislature will say and do whatever is needed to get their agendas through. Why….not because they believe in them so much but because they are beholding! Beholding to a group of people who have a big influence on them. They do not care about your child or mine they just care about how they look to a group of businesses. Do they have a financial stake…….My personal opinion…..Yes absolutely some do. And that is wrong and unacceptable for anyone who is in charge of making policy that concerns are kids. When ego and money get in the way, it is time for you to vacate the office in which you reside. Like the students in Boston we must stand up in the name of every child, teacher and staff member in Public Education! I applaud the students in Boston but I am sorry it had to come to this. Agents of Education we must continue to fight for our students! We Are United As ONE! Engaged on Behalf of those Who Look UP to US!

Parent Imperfect

Student MarchTiming is everything in life. On the very same day that thousands of Boston public school students walked out of school to go to the Massachusetts State House to advocate for their schools, the Joint Committee on Education held a hearing on various bills related to charter school expansion. Occasionally the stars are truly aligned. Some of the students in the photo to your left made their way into the hearing room and gave powerful testimony on the connection between charter  school expansion and budget cuts at their schools. Some members of the committee fidgeted, others paid close attention. Then, a non-student gave the following testimony, made available to the Parent Imperfect by a special exclusive arrangement. Since time wouldn’t allow him to say the whole thing in the hearing, we share it here.
There are all sorts of arguments for and against charter schools, but I want to share…

Tut, Tut It Looks Like Rain!

Silly ole bear! So he stayed with his friend and shielded him from the storm!
From a childs storybook to a storm that affects every child in #oklaed we find ourselves facing the samething Pooh-Bear did. Pooh entered his surroundings with great expectations of hope and joy as many educators did at the beginning of the year. He found what he was searching for as did the students when that light bulb came on as they discovered the answers to their questions. He ate and ate with know worries to what lie ahead. And why shouldn’t he? After all hes only doing what a bear does. Teachers show up for work every day and pour out everything they have for each and every student without worry of what lies ahead….At least they did. Pooh continued to enjoy the rewards of his hard work and the taster things of life as teachers enjoyed seeing their students learn and become successful in their own way. But unknowing to Pooh the path he traveled had changed. It seemed smaller so much smaller!  He was stuck. Like what Pooh was thinking Public Schools are feeling. Our budgets have become increasingly smaller and things are getting extremely tight! Pooh is just a silly ole bear doing what silly ole bears do. Teachers do what teachers do best, they teach! As Pooh was stuck in the hole and unable to get out educators find themselves stuck in the unknowing. School leaders are trying to utilize every method and approach to save jobs while shielding the students. Its raining and there is know sign of it stopping for awhile. But there is one thing that can be done to protect the students,  teachers and districts….. If ever there was a time it is now. We need…our students need, an umbrella to shield them from this latest blow.  Its a very Rainy Day! So repeat after me… Tut, Tut It Looks Like Rain, Tut, Tut It Looks Like Rain! Just maybe the Governor will tap the Rainy Day Fund. Tut, Tut It Looks Like Rain!
